WHITE THROATED GROUND THRUSH[Zoothera citrina cyanotus]

        This is a cute bird usuaslly living in forests and thickly vegitated areas of India & Sreelanka.The head and upper parts are yellowish brown and the rest of the upper parts are ashy  blue.A larger white patch on the wings,which is visible only while flying. There are beautiful white &black lines above the eyes so the

Malayalees call it Kurikkannan Kattupullu 

.The under parts are also yellowish brown.Throat is white.In female ashy blue wings are suffused with green.Usually lives in pairs.Eats small insects&worms that found in the ground and flies silently to the branches  when frightened.Otherwise it is a silent bird, but the male starts to sing a wonderful song in breeding season.It is a local migrant,but loves places where it gets plenty of food and stays there for a long time.

Encroachment and distruction of mangroves

In Kerala at Kannur Dist; near valapattanam bridge in the name of eco-tourism,the mangroves are being destroyed and the Valapattanam river banks are being encroached by pappinisseri eco- toursm soceity.They are doing many construction works in a hurry.

The construction of a road about 10M width is in progress by destroying thick and virgin mangroves.They made fence to the river bank and mangroves and had made it their own property.More over they had planted seedlings of mangroves in the river it self for encroaching about half acre of river. Also many other construction works are taking place.
If this project is allowed,the whole mangroves will be destroyed by tourists and others.
Mangroves have many ecological importance.They are preventing the spreading of salt water to the land and many species of animals and fishes are living in them.They also protect the river from bank sliding and help to keep the water level.So all the works in the mangroves must be banned and keep the virginity

A RIVER BEING KILLED BY DEVELOPMENT!!

At Kannur in Kerala we had a river KAKKAD in puzhathi panchayath.Now the river is almost dead.The reasons of this is encroachment and dumping of wastes in it.The kakkad river was once a fine river having boat services to carry agriculture goods and passengers.Now the flow is fully stopped.At one point the river has being shrank into a culvert by the road authorities.The Panchayath itself has built a fish&butchery market inside the river on pillars!!All the wastes are dumped straightly in the river!!The river also had given to a plywood factory for lease @100Rs/year!!! they had also destroyed the river, which is a public property of the people living near it.Many other encroachments are also in the river,like schools,roads,play ground etc.Now the panchayath authorities says that there is no river in that place and they are trying to use all the land for construction works.

Many agitations had taken place by environmental groups like zilla paristhsamithi,kakkadpuzhasamrakshana samithi etc
